A VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is the standard document procurement teams ask for when evaluating accessibility. Done well, it's a sales asset. Done badly, it's a legal liability.
What's in this starter
- Header block with product, version, evaluation methods, and standards
- Tables 1 and 2 pre-loaded with every WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA criterion
- The four standard conformance levels (Supports / Partially / Does Not / N/A)
- Markers on the nine criteria new to WCAG 2.2
How to fill it out (without lying)
- 01Be honest. "Partially Supports" with a clear remark beats "Supports" that doesn't survive a procurement audit.
- 02Cite evidence in remarks — "Tested with NVDA 2024.4 + Firefox; known issue tracked as ENG-1421".
- 03Distinguish product surfaces — admin console vs end-user app may have different conformance.
- 04Date and version every VPAT. Re-issue at least annually or after major releases.
Download the starter below. It's plain text/CSV-friendly so you can open it in Word, Google Docs, or Excel and reformat to your brand.
